All moms want their children to have access to life’s greatest stuff: good schools, loving relationships, and long, healthy lives. Accomplishing those goals, as any mother can attest, is a process that starts early on — way before baby gets his first pair of cool kicks. Proper prenatal care is fundamental, but many mothers-to-be slip through the cracks; that’s where Broward Healthy Start Coalition comes into play. It provides a support system for pregnant woman and their young’uns through health screening, physician referrals, and by helping potential parents apply for programs like WIC.

To celebrate all of the new lives coming into Broward County, BHSC has teamed up with other great organizations within the community to throw the First Annual Countywide Baby Shower. All expectant and new parents are invited to attend “Shower to Empower” today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will by giveaways like car seats and baby bags, free lunch, and educational resources galore. And who knows? Maybe you’ll meet some other moms that need play date partners. It’s all free and happening at Central Broward Regional Park (3700 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill). Call 954-563-7583, or visit www.browardhealthystart.org.
