New York is a city known for its diversity, so it seems fitting that its artists will have unique perspectives on storytelling. That concept is explored in “Representing 718 and 212: New York City Artists,” the newest exhibit at local modern art Mecca Lèche-Vitrines Art Alliance (3038 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale).
Four artists from the same geographic boundary work under very different mediums to contribute to this new collection. Two-man tag team DNA paints photonegative silhouettes onto canvas and then gives punchy, pop-art, background colors to their subjects. Michael McNamara paints the form and structure of urban landscape; often his buildings and tenements are so very cumbersome that they seem to engulf the entire picture. Those beautiful brick and mortar temples can be either intimidating or enamoring — based on your view of city life. Also get an eyeful of Kimberly Anthony’s abstract mixed-media canvases and Carla E.
