We’re proud to give a graduation announcement: Twelve drag queens — brand-spanking new — are about to enter the professional drag world at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Atomic Boom (2232 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors). They went through ten weeks of free workshops, coached by professional drag queens. They learned how to walk in six-inch heels. They created personas. The news release says they were taught how to create a “super sweet stache” — a commendable skill, but we’re not quite sure what the ’stache looks like.

Many students attend the workshops for fun — to learn the art of drag, but once in costume, some alumnae want to perform. At Drag Ultima!, these draglings are all set to join the pros of Drag It Out, a nonprofit organization that has performed at this year’s Pridefest of South Florida, Pride of the Palm Beaches, and the Miami Beach Gay Pride, among other places. The show is for those 21 and up, and admission costs $10 for normal dress; gender-bending dresswear gets you in for $8, with proceeds going to Pride Center at Equality Park, Animal Aid, and Safe Schools of South Florida — for what Drag It Out nicknames the Kids, the Queers, and the Animals. Call 954-612-4489, or visit dragitout.org.

Sat., May 1, 9:30 p.m., 2010
