When Lea Kuhry, special events manager for Kids In Distress, started planning last year’s annual fundraiser at 3030 Ocean, she came up with a crazy idea. She called up 3030’s celebrity chef Dean James Max to ask him about it. “Chef, you know how they have those bachelor auctions on TV?” Kuhry recall asking Max. “What if we auctioned you off”

“Well,” the chef replied, “maybe we could.

The result was pretty sweet: The winning bidder plunked down $4,000 to have

Max make dinner for him and guests, along with a wine pairing. It was a

big chunk of the $14,000 that Kids In Distress raised at the 3030 Ocean

fundraiser.

So they’re planning to do the same at this year’s

event, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. December 16. The eighth-annual

event will feature a five-course dinner (featuring dishes something

like the 3030 Ocean salmon pictured above) paired with wines, along

with a silent auction to benefit Kids In Distress, which works to

prevent and treat the victims of child abuse. Tickets cost $150 and
