We give a lot of props to Chef Dean James Max of 3030 Ocean on this blog. The chef and restaurateur is one of South Florida’s most prominent. He’s a staunch defender of local foodways and recently took home the top price in the Great American Seafood Cook-off held in New Orleans. And this month, he’s staying pretty busy with a number of events aimed at local foodies.

The first is a chance to cook with Max himself in the 3030 kitchens. This Sunday, September 26, Max will host a live cooking class featuring some of his favorite recipes and paired with wine. The casual class takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $80 per person. Reserve your spot by calling Nicole at 954-765-3129.

The following week is the Fort Lauderdale version of the Signature

Chefs Extravaganza, going down September 30 at the Marriott Harbor

Beach Resort. (The Boca version takes place on the 24th, details here.)

In addition to Max, there will be fine wine and spirits, a live

auction, and cooking from 24 other chefs including Michael Bennett of

Bimini Boatyard, Angelo Elia of Casa D’Angelo, Carlos Fernandez of

Hi-Life Cafe, and Jason Smith of Steak 954. The event starts at 6 p.m.

and tickets cost $125. Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes.

On October 8 through 10, Max will be at the annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.

He’ll cook at the Saturday night Party of the Senses that weekend; cost

is $135 per person and includes a grand tasting and wine pairing event.

Finally, Max will host the 9th annual Kids in Distress Dinner on

December 15 at 3030 Ocean. The five-course dinner — including

champagne, wine and a silent auction for $150 per person — will

cookbook while giving to charity. Call 954-765-3129 for reservations.
