Gregg Allman is of course the only surviving eponymous brother in the Allman Brothers Band. But the group is one of the few of the late hippie generation enjoying renewed fan infusion over the years, thanks to popularity on the jam-band scene and the addition of younger players like Derek Trucks. Solo, Gregg Allman still enjoys the kind of hallowed status bestowed by fans both young and old. While ABB is known for balls-out Southern rock, Gregg Allman’s material on his own bears more hallmarks of blues and soul. See the title of his most recent album, 2011’s Low Country Blues, for a clear pledge of allegiance. Allman, who turns 65 this year, canceled all of his late 2011 tour dates due to a respiratory infection, so this show should be a precious one for fans.
