One does not need to endure a 15-hour-plus plane ride to witness the sheer majesty of an authentic Tibetan monk performance. The Mystical Arts of Tibet: Sacred Music Sacred Dance, brings members of the Drepung Loseling Monastery, in all their full regalia, to our shores. Endorsed by the Dali Lama himself, this show re-creates the pageantry, splendor, costumes, and the monks’ famed multiphonic singing (in which the robed ones concurrently sing three notes of a chord while chanting) for one night. Performing ancient temple music with traditional Tibetan instruments and combining elements of ancestral Tibetan dance, this nine-act performance aims to enlighten audiences by encouraging world peace and healing. Additionally, this sacred show seeks to generate awareness of the Tibetan refugee community in India.
